Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 distributed state of the art cars for magistrates in the state, promising to look into the problems plaguing the state’s judiciary in the near future.
This development may not go down well with Imo civil servants, pensioners, Youth Must Work volunteers, Imo Civil Guard corps, contractors, past appointees and several others whose salary arrears are yet to be paid by the state government.
Present at the presentation ceremony are Justice Paschal Nnadi, the Chief Judge of Imo State and Chief Uche Nwosu, son-in-law to the Governor who is the Chief of Staff to the Imo State Government.
Civil servants in the state have already started crying foul as they wonder how Governor Okorocha would spend millions of naira on cars for magistrates whose salaries are enough to buy cars if they so desire, while he blames economic crunch for his inability to pay salaries.
Other analysts have concluded that the Governor’s car gift could be seen as a bribe, especially now that he is facing several legal challenges.
