Kikiayo Mimiko, the daughter of the immediate past governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, at the weekend in Lagos, was presented, along other outstanding students, with the British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award.
Miss Mimiko emerged the best candidate in Economics in Nigeria at the November 2015 Cambridge Examinations.
The parent of the awardee, Dr. Olusegun and Mrs. Olukemi Mimiko received the award on behalf of their daughter from the deputy head of mission at the British Embassy, Andrew Davidson.
While responding on behalf of parents of the awardees at the occasion on Friday, May 19, 2017, Dr. Mimiko commended the British Council for promoting quality education in Nigeria.
He said that the award will motivate students to work hard so as to be recognised.
The former housing minister also maintained that cutting-edge education being provided for Nigerian youths will enable them to be globally competitive.
Mimiko further reiterated his belief in Nigeria, adding that with the corps of youthful Nigerians that were being recognised for their academic achievements by the council, the future of the country is assured.
During his administration in Ondo State (2009 to 2017), Dr. Mimiko made foundational education a priority in the southwestern state building hundreds of world-class mega primary schools to “serve the children of the rich and the poor, reducing inequality in the society”.
