Militants Blow Up NNPC Gas Pipelines Dealing A Heavy Blow To Nigeria’s Gas Production

Suspected Niger Delta militants in the early hours of Friday blew up another section of an NNPC gas trunkline behind Salvation City near Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the incident happened at about 2am on Friday, May 20, 2016.

Community sources said that the suspected militants used dynamites and explosives to carry out the attack.

Although details of the attack was still sketchy, an official of the Delta State Government who wishes not to be named described the attack as a major blow to gas production and by implication, power generation in the country.

The incident was confirmed by a monarch in one of the communities in the area who stated that houses in his area were shaken as a result of the blast.

Although, a military source around the area confirmed the incident, the spokesman of the Joint Task Force in the region, Col. Isa Ado, could be reached for comment, he declined to take calls to his mobile phone and did not reply text message requesting his reaction.
