Gift-Giving Is One of My Deepest Passions.
I can only best describe it as pure exhilaration. The thought that one simple gift can bring such tremendous joy and happiness to someone else, overwhelms me. I may not see their face or hear their gratitude, but just touching the hem of His garment is enough. The Holy Spirit bears witness in my heart! “Experience the Gift your Heavenly Father gave.”
Matthew and Luke share the incredible story about the supreme Gift God gave the world—His Only Son, Jesus Christ. The angels could hardly contain themselves as they sang to the lowly shepherds, “Good news of great joy…for all the people!” No one is overlooked. No one is left out. No one is denied God’s gift under His tree—the Old Rugged Cross.
There Is No Doubt…This Is The Reason For All of Us To Reach Out And Give To Those Around Us. Not just presents under the tree for our dearest loved ones, but hot meals to the homeless, a pair of warm gloves for cold hands. Surprise presents to little children who never expected a “Santa” to come to their house this year. Shiny toys and some of their first new clothes ever, not hand-me-downs or secondhand. Shoes like the other kids get to wear to school…a warm coat. Our greatest gifts? Those that reach beyond our sight and hands.
Yes! If We Feel It, How Much More Does Our Heavenly Father Feel The Passion And Exhilaration For Himself? After all, He gave the greatest gift of all! And when He sees us give with such humble thoughtfulness and simplicity, He only prays that we will open His present to us—the greatest privilege and highest honor ever, to share His forgiveness and compassion to everyone around us.
After the shepherds experienced their surprise Christmas package wrapped in swaddling clothes, we read, “They spread the word…and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them,” (read Luke 2:17-18).
