MIAMI BEACH, USA — The city of Miami Beach is retracting its previous decision to dedicate a day to renowned music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs following recent legal troubles and serious accusations of abuse.
On June 26, NBC6 obtained a resolution from the Miami Beach mayor and city commission that rescinded the proclamation designating October 13 as “Sean Diddy Combs Day.”
This move came in light of escalating legal issues surrounding the rap star.
Miami Beach Commissioner David Suarez issued a strongly worded statement on Monday in reaction to the resolution.
“As long as I am a City Commissioner of Miami Beach, women beaters, sexual predators, and pedophiles will have no place in our city,” Suarez said.
This decision follows a series of troubling events involving Combs.
Two months ago, the FBI raided his mansion as part of a sex trafficking investigation. This was compounded by the recent release of a 2016 video showing an assault involving his ex-girlfriend Cassie.
In response to these incidents, Combs has publicly apologised.
“I’m so sorry,” Combs said. “But I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”
Since Cassie came forward with her claims against Combs last year, he has been hit with five lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault, sexual trafficking, and other criminal activities. Combs has consistently denied all the allegations and has taken legal steps to dismiss some of the lawsuits.
He has filed paperwork in court seeking to dismiss a Jane Doe lawsuit and partially dismiss another woman’s suit.
The retraction of the proclamation marks a significant shift in Miami Beach’s stance towards Combs, reflecting the city’s intolerance for the alleged actions of the celebrity.
