Mentally Challenged Cobbler Commits Suicide In Ondo

The lifeless remains of a mentally challenged man, Tope Ogunmodede, was over the weekend discovered dangling down inside a room in an apartment which he shared with his mother at Lafe area of in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Ogunmodede, a cobbler, who had been battling the health challenge for 32 years, allegedly committed suicide out of frustration.

According to Vanguard, he was supposed to have gone for his routine medical check up on Thursday, September 24, 2015 but shifted it until Monday, September 28, 2015 due to the Eid-el-Kabir holiday.

His mother identified simply as Comfort, was said to have gone out on the fateful day, leaving Ogumodede alone behind.

Comfort came back and met his absence from his usual seat and searched the rooms only to discover the lifeless body of her son in one of the rooms.

She raised an alarm which attracted the attention of neighbours who came over to help her bring down the corpse from its dangling position.

The corpse was subsequently deposited at Akure Specialist Hospital.

An unidentified member of the deceased’s family disclosed that the family had spent a fortune on Ogunmodede’s health issues without any positive result.

The state Police spokesman, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident, adding that some detectives were dispatched to the scene where they took photographs of the deceased.
