WASHINGTON, DC, Nigeria — Former US First Lady Melania Trump took to social media Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to defend her previous nude modelling work while promoting her upcoming memoir.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mrs Trump questioned the media’s scrutiny of her past fashion shoots and celebrated the beauty of the human form.
“Why do I stand proudly behind my nude modelling work? The more pressing question is: Why has the media chosen to scrutinize my celebration of the human form in a fashion photo shoot?” Trump said in the video.
“Are we no longer able to appreciate the beauty of the human body? Throughout history, master artists have revered the human shape, evoking profound emotions and admiration.”
She added, “We should honour our bodies and embrace the timeless tradition of using art as a powerful means of self-expression.”
The former first lady’s spokesperson did not immediately respond to questions regarding the specific media scrutiny she was referring to or whether her photographs have resurfaced in recent news.
Upcoming Memoir Release
Melania Trump’s new memoir, titled Melania, is set for release in October through Skyhorse Publishing.
According to the publisher, the book promises to share “a powerful and inspiring story of a woman who has carved her own path, overcome adversity, and defined personal excellence. “
Mrs Trump’s modelling career drew attention during her husband’s 2016 presidential campaign when the New York Post published several nude photos taken in 1995 for a now-defunct French men’s magazine.
Donald Trump responded to the photos at the time, saying, “pictures like this are very fashionable and common.”
Additionally, a 2000 British GQ cover featuring Melania Trump nude on Donald Trump’s private plane resurfaced during the campaign.
Despite the controversy, she became first lady after her husband’s election victory in 2016.
Stepping Back into the Spotlight
Melania Trump has maintained a low profile during Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, making only occasional public appearances.
However, she has slowly returned to the political stage in recent months, releasing a series of politically charged social media videos.
Political advisers and close allies say she supports her husband’s political aspirations, though she has focused on raising their son, Barron.
In July, she stated an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, thanking law enforcement and Secret Service agents for their protection.
Trump’s memoir, which will be her second published work, comes as the former first lady begins to re-enter the political spotlight, hinting at a more prominent role as the 2024 campaign heats up.
