Edward Smith was first aroused by a Volkswagen Beetle. And since that tryst, he’s made love to more than 700 vehicles.
The 63-year-old told UK TV hosts on This Morning that he first became attracted to cars in 1965.
Smith, whose condition is known as mechanophilia, is sexually attracted to machines – and as well as having sex with cars, has also had a relationship with a helicopter and planes, claiming they are all more arousing to him than women.
As a teenager, he was tempted one night to step outside to make love to the neighbour’s car, a Volkswagen Beetle.
Man has sex with cars
“I began an interest in the beauty of cars when I was turning just 15 years of age,” The Washington native revealed.
“It woke something up inside me,” he said, adding that he gave the Beetle a “gentle caress”.
The hosts of This Morning pressed for more details asking him to explain how it was possible to actually have sex with a car.
“It has to do with the body itself. I’m not really attracted to any sort of, may I say, penetration,” he said.
“It is hugging and holding the shape of the car close to me and actually talking to it a little bit. And then of course, the rest is just physical satisfaction – masturbation is, I guess, the word.
“It is done with the car, by the car – next to it.”
He has been with the love of his life, Vanilla, since 1982.
“On my own private property where I live is where we get mostly intimate and I’m very careful and respectful not to be seen in public because this is private – like any other kind of love affair between a couple.”
Despite having another, simultaneous relationship with a Ford Ranger called Ginger, Smith said there is no resentment on Vanilla’s part.
“She’s very forgiving,” he said, before stressing he was aware the cars are objects, not sentient beings.
“I don’t like to pretend to the point where I form sociological or mental difficulties, I don’t let it get that heavy,” he said adding that he has had relationships with women in the past.
“But when I hold them (cars) in my arms I do feel an energy that comes from each one of them.
“It kind of depends what mood I’m in. Lately, at my age, the libidinal energies have kind of calmed.
“But it is amazing that beyond that there’s a deep, very deep love – I wouldn’t want anything to separate us.”
