About a year ago, we raised funds for Festus Fajemilo Foundation – FFF to send Festus for treatment at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia USA where he received treatment including surgery.
The management of the hospital provided all this at no charge.
Festus had to do a follow up visit this year and I planned to launch another appeal to assist with the logistics cost for the 2 month sojourn (i.e. travel, feeding and accommodation etc).
But unfortunately it coincided with the #SaveJomiloju hole in the heart appeal which was given priority since it was life threatening.
Even though I am on the board of the FFF I had to take a decision not to pursue the appeal at the expense of a more pressing need.
By some miracle, Festus made it to Shriners in the US again for his follow up check up and still needs our support for his remaining 7 week stay at the hospital. (The Estimate cost was aroud N1.5m).
These pictures show the remarkable progress he made with the first treatment.
Our hope and prayer in the foundation is that we can capitalize on the relationship with Shriners to help other children to get the same level of help and also use Festus case as a clear demonstration of what can be achieved for other kids suffering from Spina Bifida or Hydrocephalus.
