LONDON, England – Former Tottenham Hotspur boss, Mauricio Pochettino, is on the verge of becoming the new manager of Chelsea Football Club. Negotiations between Pochettino and the club have reportedly reached their final stage.
According to the Telegraph on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, the Argentine is already assembling his backroom staff, which includes Jesus Perez as assistant manager and head of conditioning, as well as Miguel D’Agostino as first team coach.
Chelsea recently sacked their former manager Graham Potter earlier this month and put Frank Lampard in charge of the first team until the end of the season.
Pochettino, who has been out of a job since his dismissal from Paris Saint-Germain in 2022, was initially linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, and he has emerged as the leading candidate for the job.
Julian Nagelsmann, the former Bayern Munich coach, had initially been seen as the frontrunner for the job, but reports suggest he has cooled on a move to the west London club.
Luis Enrique, the former Barcelona manager, was also a serious contender at one point, but doubts have emerged over his appointment.
If Pochettino is appointed, he will take over a Chelsea team that has been performing well under Lampard.
The club currently sits in third place in the Premier League, and they have already secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Pochettino’s first match in charge of the Blues could be against Tottenham Hotspur in the London derby on May 6th.
