Two married police officers have been arrested in Oklahoma over the shooting death of their teenage daughter’s boyfriend.
Tulsa police say Shannon Kepler, a 24-year veteran of the department, shot dead 19-year-old Jeremy Lake on Tuesday night.
The 54-year-old cop surrendered to authorities later that night and is being held on a charge of first-degree murder.
His wife and fellow Tulsa police veteran, 48-year-old Gina Kepler, also turned herself in and is charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact.
The couple’s 18-year-old daughter, Lisa, told local NBC affiliate KJRH that her parents had kicked her out of their home a week before the shooting.
She said she met Mr Lake at a homeless shelter and that they began dating immediately.
Lisa told the station she was outside Mr Lake’s home when her father showed up on Tuesday night.
She said: “We were outside for five minutes and that’s when my dad pulled up.
“There was no argument. I walked away and Jeremy introduced himself and my dad shot him.”
Authorities have not released any other details about the shooting.
Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan issued a statement saying, “I as well as the whole Department am saddened for both families involved in this tragic event.
“The circumstances around this incident drives home the fact that domestic violence is a societal problem and transcends all economic groups.
“We as a department, honourably and objectively, continue to serve the citizens of Tulsa.”
The Keplers are due to appear in court on August 12.
Tulsa police spokeswoman Jillian Roberson said both were off duty at the time of the shooting.
