Nigeria’s Interior Minister, Abba Moro has stated his belief that the general elections, which have been shifted will go on as rescheduled as Boko Haram insurgents will be subdued enough for the elections to go on peaceably.
Speaking to BBC, Moro said in six weeks time, enough troops will be available to ensure smooth conduct of the presidential election as they (troops) knew what was at stake, especially as the international community was watching.
He said: “I think that we don’t have any reason not to be optimistic that they [the Nigerian military] are capable to bring the war to a level that will allow for a free and fair election.
“I think that they know what stakes are involved – it’s a national election, it’s a national concern and the international community is watching.”
