At least 7 people have been confirmed dead as three explosions were recorded in Maiduguri, the troubled capital of Borno State.
According to AFP, the huge explosions happened in the Ajilari Cross area of the city, which had in experienced to bomb blasts in September including on Sunday, September 20, 2015 when at least 117 were killed.
A Red Cross official was quoted as saying: “Seven dead bodies have been evacuated from the scene of the blasts.”
Details of the blasts are still sketchy owing to the night-time curfew currently in place.
According to Bashir Mohammed, a resident who lives close to the scene, the blasts went off in quick succession around 8pm.
“We are all confused and people are running helter-skelter,” Mohammed said.
A cleric in the area, Sheriff Ahmad who claimed to have seen body parts on his house said: “Many people have been killed. I don’t know how many and I don’t think anyone can tell you now.”
Hafsat Sani, a nurse at the Umaru Shehu hospital where victims were rushed to availed thus: “There are many houses around the area and the blasts have affected many of them.”
