A bus drivers faith just saved his life.
Rickey Wagoner was attacked by a gang of three youths as his bus broke down on the road on Monday February 24th 2014 in Ohio, USA.
The teenagers shot shot him twice in the chest at close range and once in the hip
A bible in his top pocket acted as a bullet proof stopping the two bullets.
Police in Dayton, Ohio, said the 49-year-old could have been killed if it wasn’t for the New Testament Bible.
‘I had a book in my pocket,’ Wagoner told 911 operators.
‘At first I thought it went through. It just feels like I’ve been hit with a sledgehammer in the chest. And I’ve been cut on the arm.’
Wagoner told police he believes the assault was part of a gang initiation. Wagoner said he heard one suspect tell another that he needed to “kill the polar bear” in order to be “all the way in the club.”
Mr Waggoner managed to wrestle the gun from the youngsters, who are thought to be aged between 15 and 18, and fired back.
‘They started to run. I shot at them with their gun,’ he added.
‘I got their gun and knife in the bus with me.’
Dayton police, however, said it was too early in the investigation to draw any conclusions about the motive.
