Chelsea’s title ambition has suffered yet another early blow. The premier league champions fell 0-3 to Manchester City at the Etihad stadium on Sunday, August 16, 2015.
The hosts consistently knocked on Chelsea’s door earlier on in the game but were kept at bay by amazing saves from Bosnian goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic. Manchester City eventually broke the deadlock in the 31st minute through Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine beat the entire Chelsea defence to squeeze one past the Blues’ deputy keeper who was standing in for the suspended Thibaut Courtois.
Both teams went in at half time with Diego Costa threatening to attack Fernandinho; the Manchester City player had injured the Chelsea striker in an aerial battle few minutes to the end of the first half.
Chelsea took more control of the game in the second half but couldn’t get in a goal. The hosts got their second goal of the game in the 79th minute through a Vincent Kompany header. With Chelsea almost condemned to defeat, City nailed the Blues’ coffin with a third goal by Fernandinho in the 85th minute.
Chelsea’s next game comes up away at West Brom next Sunday while Manchester City faces Everton at Goodison park on the same day.
