Manchester City Denied Champions League Badge Despite Historic Victory

Must read

MANCHESTER, England – Despite their historic win in the Champions League final, Manchester City will not be permitted to wear the UEFA Badge of Honour on their shirts next season.

The Premier League club won the prestigious European trophy for the first time in their history, completing a treble by defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in Istanbul.

Midfielder Rodri’s second-half goal sealed the deal for City, with goalkeeper Ederson making some crucial saves in the match’s dying moments.

However, their victory will not be represented on their sky blue jerseys in the form of the Champions League trophy badge next season.

The UEFA Badge of Honour, introduced in the 2000/2001 season, is not awarded to clubs for a single win in Europe’s top competition.

Clubs are eligible to sport the badge only if they have won the European title either five times in total or three times consecutively.

This distinction means that only six clubs—Barcelona, Liverpool, Ajax, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Real Madrid—have the honour of donning the Champions League trophy on their shirts.

Therefore, despite their significant achievement this season, Manchester City must wait to earn this badge of honour.
