A man, Ali Nawaz Leghari, 40, from Pakistan had allegedly sedated and strangled five out of his six children in order to gain magical powers including the ability to turn lead into gold and have eternal life.
The strange incident took place at Saeed Khan, 140 miles north of Karachi, Sindh Province after Leghari’s wife caught him trying to poison the family’s dinner and escaped with their oldest son.
According to The Express Tribune, Leghari was said to be undertaking a 40-day spiritual journey, called a “Chilla”, which was apparently prescribed by a local “pir” – an Sufi elder, who guides followers.
“He strangled them one by one inside the room and later dumped them on a bed in the courtyard,” Rahimo said.
The deceased children including two girls and three boys were identified as Haseena, 15, Humera, 4, Mukhtiar, 12, Shabir, 7, and Zameer, 3.
The man had since been at large after allegedly starngling the five children with a rope found at the scene of the heinous act.
Leghari’s oldest son Sabir Hussain, who survived the attack disclosed that his father was a drug addict and had tried to drug his sister on Tuesday, January 6, 2015.
He said, “Every midnight, he would draw a circle around him and do incantations.”
