A 46-year-old farmer identified as Sunday Olubusayo, had on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 committed stabbed and set himself ablaze after beheading his wife, Oyewole and their daughter, Esther aged 3 at Onigbedu town in Ewekoro Local Government area of Ogun State.
According to Punch, the police recovered a knife with blood stains and machete from the scene which were believed to have been used in committing the crime.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, investigations revealed that the couple had a fight before Olubusayo eventually beheaded his wife and daughter and subsequently stabbed and set himself ablaze.
The remains of the victims were deposited at the General Hospital in the Ifo area of the state where an autopsy is expected to be conducted on them.
Adejobi said, “After beheading his wife and daughter, Olubusayo stabbed himself, set himself ablaze and tried to jump inside a well but was prevented by neighbours.
“He later died in the hospital of fatal wounds he had inflicted on himself.”
The police spokesperson further stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, had ordered a thorough investigation into the bizarre tragedy.
He said, “The commissioner of police has directed that the matter be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran, Abeokuta for thorough investigation.”
