A middle-aged man who chained himself to a bed with a padlock and refused to leave a hospital for more than three years have been forcibly carried out by police officials on Wednesday, February 11, 2015.
The 55-year-old Chinese man simply identified by his surname as Chen, was admitted into the Beijing Jingmei Group Hospital for the first time in August 2011, after he sustained injuries from a road traffic accident.
He underwent treatment for a month and returned after two months claiming that his left leg was paining him.
This time, Chen was treated for three months after he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis. He was discharged on completion of his treatment after doctors found him fit to go home.
Chen however, refused to leave the hospital, claiming that he was still in pain, and was unable to straighten his legs, Daily Mail reports.
He stated that it was the hospital’s responsibility to take care of him.
Chen reportedly missed his son’s wedding, as he didn’t want to leave the hospital.
The hospital got tired of him and stopped treating him in July 2012 when he could no longer foot his medical bills.
Numerous tests had been carried, which clearly showed that Chen was healthy. However, he disputed the reports, insisting that he was ill.
Earlier this week, the hospital was granted a court order to have Chen forcibly ejected from his hospital bed.
He subsequently chained himself to a the bed using a padlock in order to stop authorities from ejecting him.
He was not so lucky as the locks were broken and officials carried him out of the hospital while he wept profusely.
