NAN – A Zuba Area Court on Friday sentenced Sani Bello,25, a commercial motorcyclist from Dawaki Village, Abuja, to 10 months’ imprisonment for selling a Bajaj motorcycle entrusted to his care for business and cheating.
The Presiding Officer, Malam Aminu Sa’ad, sentenced Bello after he had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Sa’ad, however, gave the convict an option to pay N30,000 fine, and also ordered him to pay a compensation of N180,000 to the complainant, Sani Mohammed.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Arziki Kaura, had told the court that on June 11, 2014, Mohammed of the address stated above, lodged a complainant against Bello at the Dutse Police Station.
Kaura said that Mohammed in his statement told the police that sometimes in 2014, he entrusted his Bajaj motorcycle to the care of Bello for the purpose of commercial cycling.
The prosecutor said that the complainant said he bought the motorcycle on hire purchase at N180, 000.
“Mohammed said that instead of Bello using it for commercial purpose , he sold the motorcycle at N85,000 and absconded with the money to an unknown destination,’’ Kaura said.
The prosecutor told the court that Bello’s offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code law.
