The police on Friday, May 8, 2015 arraigned one Joseph Gabriel, 23, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing Blackberry Q10 and Samsung galaxy S4 cell phones valued at N145,000.
Gabriel, who resides at Nyanya, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Emmanuel Adikwu, told the court that one Mr Kifasi Riman of Area 8, Garki, Abuja, reported the case at Wuse Police Station on April 30.
According to Adikwu, the accused, and two others now at large, stole the cell phones, valued at N145,000 from the complainant’s car along Mabushi Road, Abuja.
He alleged that during investigation, the accused confessed to committing the crime.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations.
“Those two boys that ran away were the ones that stole the two phones.
“I was only passing when I saw them, but the complainant just held my trouser and demanded that I should produce the two boys,’’ Gabriel said.
The Magistrate, Mrs Chinyere Nwacheonwu, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N150, 000 with a reasonable surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till June 15, for further hearing.
