A 34-year-old father of two identified only as Bennett has been confirmed dead after he gulped down nine cans of Red Bull energy drink at the Oshodi area of Lagos State.
His widow identified as Oluchi, who resides at Meiran suburb of the state said her husband died on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
Sources who witnessed the incident said some young traders at the market had engages in an argument that nobody could survive after taking five cans of the energy drink.
It was gathered that one of the traders placed N5000 up as a bet to anyone who could disprove the argument by taking more than five cans of the drink.
In his bid to fault the claims which he overheard during the argument, the deceased whose children are aged 3 and 1-year-old respectively, promised to take as much as ten cans of the said drink and eventually embarked on the journey of no return.
Reports stated that Bennett who was an electrician had consumed eight cans successfully and suddenly slumped while he was on the ninth can.
He was rushed to a nearby clinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival and his remains has been deposited at morgue of Ikeja General Hospital.
