NAN – Anthony Oguariri, a 56-year-old man, who allegedly broke into his sister’s apartment and damaged items valued at N45, 000, was on Tuesday hauled up before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Oguariri, a resident of Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos, is standing trial on a four-count charge of burglary, stealing, unlawful damage and conspiracy.
Prosecutor Jimah Iseghede told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 6 at about 8.00 a.m. at 3, Fashina St., Surulere, Lagos.
Iseghede, a police sergeant, said the accused broke into the room of the complainant, Chidinma Oguariri, and damaged her property valued at N45, 000.
In addition to the damage to the property, the accused also stole a Samsung Galaxy grand phone valued at N20, 000, jewellery valued at N10, 000 and N30, 000 cash belonging to his sister, he added.
Iseghede said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 285, 305, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded innocence of the offences.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both sections of the law provide seven years imprisonment each for stealing and burglary.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.F. Adeeyo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till July 21 for mention.
