There was pandemonium in Taaba community in Khana local government area of Rivers state after unknown gunmen numbering about fifty attacked the town, beheading an unnamed youth.
According to Leyii Kwanee, the deputy speaker of the Rivers state house of assembly, who is an indigene of Taaba, the gunmen marauded the community around 10 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2014, claiming the attack was politically motivated, blaming desperate politicians who are seeking to grab power by all means ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Kwanee further disclosed that the palace of the paramount ruler of Taaba was destroyed in the attack which left another youth injured.
Meanwhile, the corpse of the beheaded youth has been deposited in a mortuary.
Residents in the area are said to have fled the town.
He urged the commissioner of police, Dan Bature to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice.
When contacted, Ahmad Muhammad, the image maker of the Rivers state police command denied knowledge of the attack.
