A man, said to be in his mid-30’s was on Monday, October 6, 2014 arrested in Calabar, the Cross River state capital for trying to sell his son.
The man, whose name could not be ascertained was arrested in Bogobri area, which has a high Hausa population, Thisday reports.
Eye witness report states that the man was arrested after the Hausa buyers renegaded and informed police that the child about to be sold was the man’s son.
An eye witness who spoke under anonymity said: “It was at the point that he wanted to collect money for the child that the police came in and arrested him. They took him and the child away. It is good that it happened because so many people have been giving us a bad name in this area over this kind of things happening here. He(suspect) is now in the police station.”
Cross Rivers police spokesman, Hogan Bassey said he would comment officially later, after he was contacted.
