A Lagos businessman allegedly beat up and stabbed his wife with a bottle on March 11, 2014 in their residence at Ikota Villa Estate, Lekki.
Ernest Junaid appeared before a magistrate court on Monday, March 17, 2014.

A businessman, Ernest Junaid, was on Monday arraigned in Lagos for allegedly beating up his wife and stabbing her with a bottle.
Junaid, who lives at Flat 438, Ikota Housing Estate, Ajah, appeared before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court for causing an unlawful and grievous harm to one Glory Asheh, his wife.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 11, at about 11.30 pm., within the Ikota Housing Estate, Ajah.
Ighodalo explained that the accused stabbed his wife out of anger when she demanded the keys to their apartment.
The complainant, Asheh, had explained that her husband was in the habit of beating her, and on the fateful day, she met their apartment door locked and had gone to a bar, where her husband was, to demand for the keys.
Ighodalo alleged that Junaid, being drunk, started beating his wife before finally stabbing her with a bottle on her cheeks and jaw.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Junaid, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Olaitan Ajayi granted the accused bail in the sum of N40, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the matter till March 18, for continuation of hearing.
