Man, 54, Beats His Wife To Death In Lagos Because She Could Not Have A Child (PHOTOS)

A 54-year-old man, Ikechukwu Anajekwu has beaten his wife to death because she was unable to bear him children after some years of marriage.

Anajekwu reportedly accused his wife, Mrs Obiageli Anajekwu of being responsible for the ill luck that he was going through among which was his arrest for drug trafficking, imprisonment and his misfortunes in life.

However, according to reports, the deceased family made it known that Mr. Anajekwu had turned their daughter into a punching bag shortly after he came back from prison and it was on one of such beatings on January 19, 2015, that the lady slumped and died.

Narrating his sister’s misfortune, the victim’s bereaved brother said, “When Ikechukwu came for Obiageli’s hand in marriage, he told us that he runs a restaurant in Brazil. After the marriage however, he was arrested for drug trafficking. He was imprisoned in Cameroon, but his wife waited patiently for him until he finished his term.
“Even while he was in prison, my sister said she used to send him money.It was after his return from prison that the marriage began to fall apart. Ikechukwu became violent and started beating his wife over any real or imagined slight.
“Our family invited them to the village. The man accused my sister of being a witch. He said she couldn’t give him a child after years of marriage. He also accused her of being responsible for his set back in business.”
On his part however, the accused who claimed to be an international business man refuted claims of being responsible for his wife’s death maintaining that he was innocent.He also stated that he owns an African restaurant in Brazil and already married and has children with a White woman before he decided to marry a Nigerian women after much pressure from the family.He said, “One of my relatives introduced Obiageli to me, that she is the perfect woman on earth. Sometime in 2013, we had a traditional mar­riage and I decided to stay around in Nigeria so that she can enjoy me a little. Suddenly, I realised that she is fetish especially when she did not conceive after six months.

“She accused everyone in my house of being the brain behind her childlessness. Meanwhile, the little business that I was doing in Nigeria started to crumble. I was finding it hard to make a living. I travelled down to Anambra and met a Reverend Fa­ther who prayed for me.

He said the cleric told directed him to embark on a search in his family as the brain behind his several misfortunes was from within.

It was during the search that he allegedly saw a ‘mobile shrine’ in his late wife’s bag with his pictures and those of my family members all tied with pieces of a red cloth.

“I confronted her and she denied any involve­ment but refused to swear,” he said.

Mr Anajekwu added, that he went to his in-laws to reveal his intention that he was no longer interested in the union.

He said, “I made it official in Decem­ber and returned to Lagos. I was surprised when on January 19, she came knocking at my door.”

It was shortly after that the incident happened which eventually led to Mrs Anajekwu’s sudden death.

He was initially arrested and after due investigation from the police detectives at the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Panti, Lagos, he was remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison in the state.
