Napoleon Okonta, 49, has reportedly raped his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter in Odo-Eran Street in the Ijegun Egba area of Lagos state.
Reports stated that Okonta lured the victim into his bedroom and forcefully pulled her pants and had carnal knowledge of her.
The victim who was not identified was said to have been rescued by neighbours who were attracted to the scene by her repeated screams.
The suspect, a father of two was subsequently nabbed by the prosecutor of the case, Olusoji Ojaokoma who brought him before Mrs. O.I. Adelaja, of a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ajegunle, Apapa, area of the state.
He was charged with a one count charge of rape.
According to Punch, a medical test was conducted on the victim and the result proved that she was actually raped.
The crime was committed on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at about 2pm.
According to the prosecuting council, the offence is punishable under Section 137, Cap 74, Vol. 44 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
Okonta was admitted to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned till Monday, March 9, 2015 for further mention.
