Governor Makinde Moves To Extend Tenure Of LG Caretaker Chairmen

Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has sought the approval of members of the State House of Assembly to extend the tenure of the caretaker committee chairmen in the state.

Makinde requested a three months extension for sixty-eight Local Government and Local Council Development Areas Caretaker Chairmen and their members.

The request was contained in a letter forwarded to the Oyo State House of Assembly by the Governor.

The tenure of the Caretaker Chairmen whose appointments were approved on the 19th of December, 2019 is expected to expire on the 19th of December, 2020.

Makinde said, “It is my wish that the House of Assembly gives this request accelerated hearing to avoid creating a vacuum in the governance of the Local Government Councils.”

Adebo Ogundoyin, the speaker of the Assembly, who read the letter at plenary on Monday, December 14, 2020, said the House will work in line with the report generated by its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

Ogundoyin assured that the request will be attended to by the House on Friday during its plenary.
