The Nigeria Police on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, arrested Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, at the National Assembly premises.
He was immediately taken away in a black Hilux van. Omo-Agege’s arrest is connected to allegations that he masterminded the theft of the mace of the Senate earlier on Wednesday.
Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President, had earlier stated that the manner in which hoodlums stormed the Red Chamber to take away the symbol authority of the upper legislative arm amounted to treason and vowed that those behind it would be dealt with.
Also, Sabi Abdullahi, the spokesperson of the Senate, accused Omo-Agege of leading hoodlums to the floor of the Senate to disrupt proceedings and take away the mace
According to sources familiar with the matter, disruptive senator was release a few hours after he was arrested, however.
