The National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) has arraigned a satellite television provider, Multichoice Nigeria limited, and two of its employees, Tayo Ajala and Tomi Olugbemi, before the Federal high Court in Lagos for allegedly organising an illegal lottery.
They were docked over a 22-count charge of conspiracy, false inducement and using the company’ office for lottery purposes.
NLRC alleged that the accused persons, had, between October 2013 and March 2014, conspired together to induce Nigerians to confer benefit on them by entering into contract of buying Multichoice Nigeria limited’s products by way of advance payment of DSTV Telecast monthly.

The accused persons were further alleged to have conspired together to induce one Emmanuel Igoche and other citizens of the federal Republic of Nigeria to buy the product of Multichoice tagged, “ RETURN TICKET TO 2014 GRAMMY AWARDS,” by way of advance payment of DSTV Telecast Monthly subscription upon the promise that participant will win a price of expense paid trip to Grammy Award in USA in a lottery they never fulfilled.
All the accused persons were alleged to have promoted a scheme entitled, “DSTV SAMBA 2014, RETURN TICKET TO BRAZIL”, under which a promise was given to the members of the Nigerian public to participate, to the effect that they will win a price in the lottery.
