An American woman paid the ultimate price for a good photograph as a lion killed her and injured her companion as they were driving through a private wildlife park in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday, June 1, 2015 .
The deadly attack occurred in the afternoon when a lioness approached the passenger side of a vehicle as the woman was taking photographs.
According to Metro UK, an assistant operations manager at the Lion Park said: “They had their windows all the way down, which is strictly against policy. The lion bit the lady through the window.”
The driver attempted to punch the lion and was scratched by the animal before park staff quickly chased it away and called an ambulance. However the fatal damage had already been done
“Unfortunately, she did pass away,” said Mr Simpson, adding that the American Embassy in South Africa had been informed because the woman was American.
The Lion Park is a popular location for tourists as it enables them to drive their own vehicles through large enclosures where the lions roam freely.
Big signboards are all over the place advising visitors to keep their car windows up and drivers entering the park are also handed a paper containing the same warning.
