American actor and film producer, Leonardo Di Caprio is set to produce a new movie about the Volkswagen emissions scandal.
According to Hollywood reporter, Leonardo’s production company Appian Way and Paramount Pictures have already bought the rights to an unwritten book by New York Times journalist Jack Ewing about the scandal.
As at the time of this report, it is unclear if the 40-year-old Titanic star will play an on-screen role in the planned movie.
In September 2015, German car manufacturing company, Volkswagen admitted 11 million of its diesel vehicles across the world had a software installed on it to help them pass emission tests even though they actual 40 times more than the emission standards.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States had discovered that a lot of Volkswagen cars being sold in their country had devices in the diesel engines which detects when a test is being run on the vehicle and therefore manipulate results accordingly for the period of the test.
The controversy led to the resignation of Volkswagen’s Chief executive, Martin Winterkorn.
