In response to the Chevron gas pipeline attack at Escravos’ tank farm in Delta State, the Nigerian Navy Ship, in Warri has deployed troops to the creeks to prevent further attacks on the oil installations.
Commodore Raimi Mohammed, who spoke through one of his aides, on phone on Thursday afternoon, May 26, 2016 that more troops additional troops have been deployed to the blast area.
He condemned the attacks noting that if it is not checked, it might degenerate to further affect the already devastated poor oil productions as a result of previous attacks by the militants.
Human rights activist, Eric Omare, confirmed the attack on the pipeline, saying the attack was real and the pipeline blown. Omare is the spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC).
It will be recalled that the Niger Delta Avengers had warned that should the Northerners who own oil blocs in the region to shut down their wells and evacuate their staff within two weeks, an ultimatum which ended on Thursday, the militants had said they would blow up more oil installations.
The Niger Delta Avengers had claimed responsibility over the attack on the oil installations on Thursday.
