The 33-year-old sojourner, Hasheem Suleiman, who promised to travel from Lagos to Abuja on foot if General Muhammadu Buhari wins the Saturday, March 28, 2015 presidential polls, finally arrived Abuja on Monday, April 20, 2015.
Experts have questioned the veracity of Suleiman claims, however. According to one, the trip from Lagos to Abuja is 700km. If he started his journey on March 31, 2015 when Buhari was declared winner of the elections, then he made the trip in 19 days. On average would mean he walked 40 kilometers a day, which is not humanly possible.
“He surely didn’t make this entire trip by foot,” the analyst says. “This is a sloppy PR stunt.”
Suleiman, now dubbed ‘The Buharian traveller’ was received by a surging crowd as he arrived the Federal Capital Territory after spending weeks on the road in fulfillment of his promise.
He was received by the Emir of Zuba, the Agora of Zuba, in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Mohammed Bello.
Suleiman’s trip, was not independently monitored, neither was the media informed when he allegedly began this trip. He neither documented his journey nor had someone document it for him. As such, Suleiman’s claims cannot be verified.
