Lagos Nurse Reveals Details of Singer Mohbad’s Final Moments

Must read

IKORODU, Nigeria – Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who treated the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has provided a detailed account of his final moments before his death.

Testifying before Justice C.A. Shotobi at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Friday, March 14, 2025, Ogedengbe revealed that Mohbad suffered a severe reaction after receiving a tetanus injection, leading to vomiting and convulsions.

Ogedengbe explained that she was contacted on 12 September 2024 by Ayobami Sodiq, also known as Spending, to treat Mohbad at his Lekki residence. Upon arriving at approximately 2:30 pm, she noticed a swollen cut on his right hand.

“I administered the tetanus shot to his upper arm,” she stated. After confirming that Mohbad had an ulcer, she opted to give him paracetamol instead of diclofenac.

She then injected him with 4ml of paracetamol diluted with 1ml of water, followed by a slow 10ml dose of ceftriaxone for a bacterial infection.

However, as she administered the ceftriaxone, Mohbad experienced discomfort and went to vomit.

“After vomiting in the toilet, he returned to the room and sat on the floor, where I noticed the goosebumps on his body,” Ogedengbe testified.

She informed Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, about the reaction, who reassured her that it was his usual response to injections.

Ogedengbe recalled asking Omowunmi why she had not mentioned this tendency earlier.

“Omowunmi then took Mohbad to the bathroom and began pouring water on his head,” Ogedengbe added.

Realising the gravity of the situation, Ogedengbe and Ayobami rushed to a pharmacy to obtain medication for the reaction. However, they encountered delays at the first pharmacy.

“After visiting another pharmacy and obtaining the necessary hydrocortisone injection and normal saline infusion, we returned to find Mohbad outside the house. By then, preparations were underway to take him to the hospital,” she said.

Due to a lack of available vehicles and heavy traffic, Mohbad was transported to the hospital on a motorcycle. Tragically, he was declared dead on arrival.

Ogedengbe noted that medical personnel initially hesitated to treat him, leading to confusion.

Mohbad’s body was later taken back to his residence around 8 pm, while Ogedengbe and others went to Orchid Lekki Police Station to obtain a death certificate.

They were subsequently directed to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah for further reporting.

Following cross-examinations by Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN (representing Mohbad’s family), Kabir Akingbolu (counsel for Omowunmi), and the Lagos State legal representatives, the case was adjourned to Friday, 21 March, for further hearings.

In a related development, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) stated that Ogedengbe and Sodiq would be prosecuted for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Meanwhile, the court acquitted musician Abdulazeez Fashola (Naira Marley), music promoter Samson Balogun (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, of any charges in the case.
