LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos residence of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, has been destroyed by fire.
The incident reportedly began on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, with a strange noise coming from the roof, which was initially mistaken for the sounds of domestic animals rummaging.
Shortly after the noise was heard, a massive fire engulfed the entire building.
Members inside the house managed to escape but could not salvage anything from the building.
Comrade Joe Ajaero was not present at the time of the incident, as he was in Geneva.
Responding to the incident, Ajaero expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the fire.
The NLC, under Ajaero’s leadership, had recently called for a nationwide strike in Nigeria following the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.
However, the strike was later suspended after intervention and negotiations by the Federal Government.
As of this report’s time, the fire’s cause is yet to be determined.
