The Secretary to the Lagos State Election Tribunal, Hafsatu Suleiman, reveals that 17 petitions have been filed by candidates who feel aggrieved about the outcome of the Saturday, March 28, 2015 and Saturday, April 11, 2015 Senatorial and state House of Assembly Elections respectively.
Two petitions emanated from the Saturday, March 28, 2015 senatorial election, while 15 were filed by candidates who vied for positions into the state House of Assembly on Saturday, April 11, 2015. The two petitions came from the camps of PDP candidates Segun Adewale and Olabisi Salis-Fakos representing Lagos West Senatorial District and Lagos East Senatorial District respectively.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the All Progressives Congress candidate, Olamilekan Solomon as winner ahead of Adewale while Salis-Fakos had lost to Senator Gbenga Ashafa of APC.
Though the Lagos Election Petitions Tribunal will sit at the newly inaugurated Roseline Omotosho Court in Ikeja, the presiding judges are, however, yet to be disclosed. Also, no date has been announced for the commencement of the tribunal hearing.
