LOKOJA, Nigeria – The academic community of Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara, Kogi State, is reeling from a devastating tragedy.

Femi Adegboye, a Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics and Statistics lecturer, was killed in a hit-and-run incident on the Lokoja/Abuja Expressway.

The fatal event took place on Saturday, September 9, as Adegboye was waiting to board a taxi from Kaduna Junction to Osara, where he worked.

The driver responsible for the incident has yet to be identified.

Balogun Omeiza, the Head of the Public Relations Unit at CUSTECH, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

“The loss is shocking for us all,” Omeiza said. The Vice Chancellor of CUSTECH, Professor Salawu Sadiku, also expressed his condolences in the statement.

“The death of Mr. Femi Adegboye came to us all as a rude shock and we have no reasons whatsoever to question God,” said Professor Sadiku.

“As much as we wanted to have a long-lasting working relationship with Mr. Adegboye, the result of his untimely death has cut off our relationships. This is a hard pill for us to swallow as an institution.”

Adegboye, who was born on June 3, 1985, is survived by his wife, children, and extended family members.

His contributions to the academic community were invaluable, colleagues say, particularly in the field of mathematics and statistics.

According to Christian rites, his burial service will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, in his hometown of Egbe, Kogi State.

The police are actively investigating the incident, but the hit-and-run driver remains at large.

The tragic event has reignited debates about road safety and responsible driving, especially along the notoriously busy Lokoja/Abuja Expressway.

As the investigation continues, the university and broader academic community mourn the loss of a cherished colleague and demand justice for the untimely death of Mr. Femi Adegboye.
