Governor Idris Ichala Wada, Kogi State has reinstated Council Chairmen in the state in obedience to the Court of appeal ruling which ordered their immediate reinstatement.
The Council Chairmen were sacked last year through an order of a High Court sitting in Kotonkarfe.
Governor Wada on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 ordered that the Chairmen be reinstated.
The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties had dragged the State Government to court over what they called, “illegal and improper constitution of the State Independent Electoral Commission”.
The High Court had declared the constitution of SIEC and all its actions, “ultra vires”, leading to the sack of the Council Chairmen and Councillors.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, the Kogi State Government filed an appeal before the Appeal Court in Abuja. The Appeal court faulted the ruling of the High Court, ordering the immediate reinstatement of the chairmen.
However, the situation of some of the Chairmen who defected to the opposition APC is yet to be defined as the statement directing them to resume office was silent on the defectors.
Speaking to Vanguard, one of the Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Folorunsho Daniyan hailed the governor for his belief in the rule of law.
