The abductors of the regent of Akungba Akoko in Ondo State, Princess Toyin Omosowon, who was kidnapped with her aides on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, have demanded for a N20 million ransom .
The regent was abducted along with three of her aides by six persons along the Akure/Akungba-Akoko highway as she returned to her palace after attending an event at the Adekunle Ajasin University in a nearby town.
According to the Vanguard her kidnappers have communicated with the family and the community.
“That is their asking price, but we have informed them that the amount is on the high side.
“We are still talking and we hope they will see reason and ask for a reasonable amount. They did not even allow us to speak with the traditional ruler.” said an unnamed source
Meanwhile, security operatives are trying to fish out those within the community who might have acted as informants to the abductors, on the basis that some persons in the university may have acted as informants on the movement of the traditional ruler.
The authorities of the university have had to close down the institution, following rumours that youths in the community were planning to attack it.
It is said that the youths hold the Vice Chancellor responsible for the kidnap of their regent.
Meanwhile, the community remained in pensive mood, Thursday
A community leader and Seriki of Akungba-Akoko, Chief Awesu, advised the youths to conduct themselves peacefully.
He also urged enjoined residents of the town to pray fervently for the release of the Oba.
