KATSINA, Nigeria – A 30-year-old man, Abubakar Abdulaziz, has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly kidnapping and burying a three-year-old child alive in Musawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Isah Gambo, disclosed that Abdulaziz abducted the victim from the parents’ residence in Bacirawa village while they were asleep.
The suspect left a letter demanding a ransom of N800,000 for the child’s release. The victim’s father, Adamu Alhassan, negotiated and paid N150,000 hoping to secure the child’s return. However, the child was not released.
Following a report, the police immediately launched an investigation, which led to Abdulaziz’s arrest. Upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime, revealing that he had buried the child alive.
The police have since exhumed the body and transferred it to the mortuary for autopsy.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abdullahi, commended the efforts of the police and urged the public to remain vigilant, saying, “I want to assure the public that we will not rest until all perpetrators of such heinous crimes are brought to book. We call on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.”
Abdullahi also stated that Abdulaziz would be charged to court for kidnapping and murder.
The incident has shocked residents of Musawa LGA, with some calling for stiffer penalties for such crimes.
One resident lamented to The Trent, “This is a sad development. We urge the government to ensure that justice is served, and the culprit is brought to book. We cannot continue to live in fear of kidnappers and other criminals.”
