Kano’s Governor Abba Yusuf Threatens to Out Officials in Illegal Land Allocation Scandal

Must read

KANO, Nigeria – Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has vowed to publish the names of individuals involved in illegal land allocation, especially those linked to the misappropriation of lands belonging to public institutions, such as schools and hospitals.

Responding to journalists’ questions on Monday, June 19, 2023, about the ongoing demolition spree across Kano, Governor Yusuf expressed profound disappointment over the unscrupulous acquisition of undeveloped lands meant for schools by those in power and the allocation of these lands to their kin, greatly undermining public interest.

The Governor stated that these lands should have been used to further the development of schools by erecting hostels, laboratories, and sports facilities for students.

“It’s unfortunate that the previous government parcelled out lands belonging to schools and allocated them to themselves and their families. These lands belong to the government and the general public and should be utilized in their interest,” he said.

Governor Yusuf added, “In one of the lands belonging to an institution, they took over, demolished everything including a laboratory, and allocated it to themselves, instead of building laboratories, hostels, and sports facilities for the benefit of students.”

The Governor affirmed that they have the list of names of those who got the allocation of lands owned by schools and worship places and plan to publish them, so everyone knows the culprits.

“We are doing this in the interest of the public and to discourage this unfortunate act in the future,” he added.
