KANO, Nigeria — In response to the recent deadly attack in Uromi, Edo State, a high-powered committee led by Kano State’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has embarked on a fact-finding mission aimed at investigating the killings and promoting peace in the affected region.
The tragic incident, which occurred last month, has stirred tensions in Uromi, a community that witnessed the loss of several lives and the displacement of many residents.
The committee, which departed Kano on Thursday, April 10, 2025, is tasked with gathering information and fostering peace in Uromi, which has been grappling with the fallout from the attacks.
Among the key members of the delegation are the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar, and officials from various departments, including Commissioners for Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties, and Women Affairs.
The Chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area is also part of the delegation.
Ibrahim Garba Shu’aibu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, explained that the committee’s formation was a direct response to the public outcry and mounting concerns over the violent events that occurred in Uromi.
The committee’s primary objective is not only to investigate the incident but also to promote peace-building and reconciliation efforts in the region.
Speaking at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport before their departure, Deputy Governor Gwarzo stressed the committee’s commitment to justice, peace, and unity.
“Our mandate is clear – to investigate, to consult, and to recommend sustainable solutions. This is not just a fact-finding mission, but a peace-building initiative aimed at restoring confidence and preventing further violence,” he said.
During their week-long visit to Edo State, the committee will engage in consultations with key stakeholders, including Edo State Governor, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations.
These meetings are part of a broader effort by the Northern Governors Forum to address the rising insecurity across the country and to promote national unity and solidarity.
