A member of the House of Representatives from Kano and Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Jibrin Abdulmumin has publicly declared his ambition to become the 8th Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.
Speaking at a briefing in Abuja, Abdulmumin said if made Speaker, he would reduce the cost governance which is in tune with the agenda of president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.
He said: “The government has to cut down the cost of governance. I believe the cost of governance is part of the president elects mandate, and this is mine as well.”
Speaking further, Abdulmumin said his experience from the House Committee on Finance has availed him the necessary experience and knowledge of public finance and economy in he country.
“It is precisely such depth of experience that a Speaker must possess, at this critical time when Nigeria requires deep and far-reaching economic reform to weather the turmoil of declining global oil prices,” he continued.
Adbulumin also revealed a 3-point agenda aimed at helping the legislature promote its mandate on Education, Healthcare, Agriculture, Youth Development, Child Rights, the rights of Persons with Disability, Gender Issues and Economic Diversification.
He also said the agenda would address the issue of transparency within the legislature, institutional strength and continuity in legislative business.
Abdulmumin hails from the same North-Western region with president-elect, General Buhari.
