No fewer than 3,000 almajirai (street pupils) of Katsina State origin have been repatriated to the state by Kano State government.
The Commandant General of Kano State -owned Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, disclosed when he paid a courtesy visit to Katsina State governor Aminu Masari.
Daurawa said the Board has repatriated no fewer than 60,000 almajirai to their respective states out of which 3000 were sent back to Katsina State.
Daurawa said the Kano State hisbah board had recorded enormous successes since its establishment and listed its mass wedding programme as some of the successes achieved.
He urged the Katsina State government to establish similar board due to its immense contribution to improving marriages and supporting the task of curtailing streets begging.
Our correspondent reports that there seem to be an increase in the number of almajirai roaming the streets of Katsina municipal and other major cities in the state begging for alms.
According to a head count of almajirai, the state has a total of 462, 212 almajirai while their tutors numbered 22, 572 across the 34 council areas of the state.
