There are calls in some quarters for former Abia state governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu to vie for the presidency of the world football governing body, FIFA.
Ex-Nigerian international, Peterside Idah while speaking on popular cable TV sports channel, SuperSport last week opined that the sports loving former governor is fit for the job.
“Kalu’s candidacy will receive massive support on the African continent, the Middle East and other parts of the world. Nigeria as a nation should present him as a candidate. Kalu is passionate about the round leather game. He has promoted the game and we saw what he did with Nigeria’s Enyimba as governor,” Idah said.
In the same vein, former English striker – John Fashanu has also called for Kalu to join the race. He also made it clear that the former Governor is yet to indicate interest but he hopes the man who helped Enyimba Football Club gain prominence in Africa will accept the proposal.
While speaking on Channel Sports on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 Fashanu stated that Uzor Kalu was qualified for the top job.
He stated that since the CAF president, Issa Hayatou was comfortable just being the President of African football, another African deserved to take the initiative. For Fashanu, Kalu is the right man to become FIFA’s first black president.
