As Nigerians await the announcement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet, feelers have emerged that he plans to head the Petroleum Ministry himself.
According to a Reuters report, sources close to President Buhari availed that he is planning to bank on his past experience as a former Minister of Petroleum under Olusegun Obasanjo’s military regime and as Head of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) under military dictactor Sani Abacha about twenty years later.
A political source said: “It would be stupid to give that position to anyone else.”
It was further revealed that Presidents Buhari’s cabinet may not be revealed until July or early August as the Senate, which must confirm the ministers will convene briefly on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 before commencing a 6 week recess.
On those who would constitute the ministerial list, an All Progressives Congress (APC) advisor said: “There is a huge body of proposals being bandied around the place.”
