The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday, March 26, 2015 upheld the victory of Governor Godswill Akpabio as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State via a unanimous decision, stating that Governor Akpabio was the legitimate candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2011 election, a position that had been contested by Frank Okon for 4 years.
Okon had said that neither he nor his supporters were not informed of the party’s primaries after the first exercise was cancelled, losing at the High Court but winning at the Appeal Court.
Delivering the Supreme Court judgement, Justice Bode-Rhodes Vivour on behalf of Justice John Fabiyi and six other judges upheld the High Court judgement on the grounds that Okon admitted in his court affidavit that he did not participate in the primaries and could not lay claims to the PDP ticket.
