As the FIFA World Cup kicks off, several Brazilians are still voicing their discontent over the staging of the tournament.

The disgruntled Brazilians have over the past few months staged numerous protests and do not seem to be in the mood to relent even as the imminent kick off the the World cup draws near.

Just a few hours ago, one of such protests in Sao Paolo, where Brazil kick of the tournament against Croatia, has attained dangerous dimensions as several people, including journalists have been injured in the clashes between the protesters and the police.

Yahoo News reports:

Protesters and Brazilian police clashed in Sao Paulo on Thursday, just hours before the first World Cup match was to be played in the city.

The protest, which gathered about 100 people, was minuscule in comparison to last year’s wave of demonstrations that sent a million people into the streets on a single night.

At least four other protests were called for in Sao Paulo, along with demonstrations in Rio and at least another five cities.

Live TV images showed Sao Paulo police unleashing tear gas and stun grenades on the protesters as they moved to block a main road leading to the stadium where the Cup opening match will be played, with Brazil taking on Croatia.

Two CNN journalists were injured in the clash, the network said on its website.

One of the journalists had her hand injured by a tear gas canister. The extent of injuries of the other journalist was not clear, nor if any protesters were hurt in the action.
